Richard Pearson
Please join us in the fight against this disease at MEMORY WALK on September 20 at La Vina! If you donate $100 or more, you will receive a Memory Walk t-shirt. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Richard Pearson. It is a name recognized by most people over the age of 30 in the El Paso and Las Cruces regions. Richard has spent his entire adult life working to make El Paso a great city. Even if you don’t recognize his name, Richard has affected your quality of life in El Paso in so many ways. If you watched KVIA TV or KTSM TV in the 80’s & 90’s you most likely saw one of his biting, straight-talking editorials. If you did, maybe it made you pay closer attention to a current issue… or get more involved in a good cause.
In 2005, Richard was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. In 2006 his short-term memory began to rapidly decline and he was beginning to show signs of dementia. Now, in 2009, he has been diagnosed with an accelerated form of dementia called Lewy Body Disease in combination with Parkinson’s. The Richard Pearson that we knew only makes rare appearances now. He still has a great sense of humor, but he has trouble remembering any of the great things that he did for the people of El Paso or even what he did for a living.
We are determined to make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. By participating in the 2009 Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk®, we are committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support. For Richard Pearson.
Currently more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and 78 million baby boomers are at risk – unless we find a way to change the course of the disease. We can’t change what has happened to Richard, but maybe we can make a difference for someone else’s dad. Or mom. Or grandmother. Or grandfather. Or sister. Or brother.
We want to do our part to fight this disease, but we need to ask for your support! Please join our team or make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
On behalf of the millions of Americans who are living with this disease, thank you for supporting our efforts. We're on the MOVE to end Alzheimer’s and all other forms of dementia!
